The vehicle chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the vehicle, as it is affected by forces during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration, mainly due to the transfer of body mass.
During fast cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause pronounced twisting and deformation of the chassis and bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
