The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, load transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis or body flex and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and twisting while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
