The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight to one side of the vehicle can cause forces up to three times greater than on the other side. This causes considerable chassis flex, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The chassis brace helps limit these movements and improve body rigidity.
