The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. High loads occur mainly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
