The car body is the part that is exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis during cornering can also cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
