The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, bodywork deformation and torsional twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
