The car’s chassis is exposed to the greatest loads due to the driver’s driving style, particularly from the transfer of the body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can lead to significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and flexing of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
