The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. It is particularly exposed due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, as well as deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
