The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly affected by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other side. This causes significant chassis flex, deformation and torsional body flex, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
