The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. These loads are caused primarily by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
