The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is especially true when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
