The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. High loads occur mainly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can cause considerable twisting of the chassis and deformation of the bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
