The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. The result is considerable chassis stress, body flex and loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
