The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can cause considerable chassis flexing or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
