The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
