The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant chassis deformation and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
