The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads as a result of the driver’s actions. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. The result is pronounced chassis twisting, as well as body deformation and torsion, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
