The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the vehicle chassis when cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
