The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
