The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
