A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
