The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
