The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest load due to the driver’s driving. This is particularly evident when transferring the body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer while driving through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to 3 times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
