The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, load transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
