The car chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads while driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes chassis flex and body deformation, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
