The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving, primarily due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes the chassis to twist and deform, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
