The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
The front strut brace connects the mounting points on both sides of the vehicle and helps limit twisting of the front section of the chassis.
