The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant twisting and deformation of the body or chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
