The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
