The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes considerable flexing, deformation and twisting of the body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Body deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
