The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes the chassis or body shell to bend and twist, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
