The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in high loads on the chassis, as well as body twisting and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
