The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater body twisting and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The front upper strut brace (strut bar) helps increase the rigidity of this section of the body.
