The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress by driving conditions. This is especially true due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in greater chassis flex, as well as body deformation and torsional movement, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
