The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads by the driver’s driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight when driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating.
In some cases, the transfer of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
