The car bodywork is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The front strut brace additionally connects the upper suspension mounting points and helps increase the stiffness of the front section of the bodywork.
