The vehicle’s chassis or body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or firm acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant bending, deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
