The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. During rapid cornering, heavy braking or acceleration, the transfer of body weight has a particularly significant effect on these loads.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can cause considerable twisting and deformation of the chassis, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
