The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to three times more force than the other. This leads to high loads on the chassis, body flex and, consequently, loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
