A car’s body is subjected to significant loads when driving at speed, particularly due to weight transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant deformation and body flex, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Body flex when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
