The vehicle chassis is subjected to the greatest loads during fast driving, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes the body to twist and deform, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
