The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Body deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
