The vehicle body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant twisting and bending of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
