The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
