The car body is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or decisive acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater loads on the body, as well as twisting and bending, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the body when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
