The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex and body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
