The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to 3 times more load than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
