The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads due to the way the vehicle is driven. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in heavy loads on the chassis, flexing of the body and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
