The bodywork is the part of the car subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the bodywork’s weight when driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating hard.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater deformation and twisting of the bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
