The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more load than the other. This results in significant stress on the body, as well as twisting and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
